This photo is undoubtedly one of the first taken stealthily, through the shutters, on the day Rosheim was liberated. These are the very first soldiers to enter the Romanesque town.
They were on their guard and had a reputation for being trigger-happy. The blurriness of the photograph reflects both the author’s emotion and a slight fear of danger.
Presumably, the photographer dared to take this shot through the shutters, hence the soldier’s startled movement and the blur.
