Six-bucket well and
Zittgloeckel gatehouse in winter 1945

January 21st, 1945
Urgently recalled on January 18, 1945, to protect Strasbourg from a German counterattack (Operation Nordwind), the 501st RCC (Tank Regiment) of the 2nd DB sets up quarters in Rosheim for a few days.
The army is getting organized, as the signposts on the well show. They indicate the offices, but also the hospital and the officers’ circle. A sign in the window of the gatehouse thanks French and Allied troops, as well as General de Gaulle. This sign is still preserved today.
